Everyone needs a purk-me-up of nostalgia every once in a while.

What makes you feel nostalgic? Nostalgia is such an interesting emotion because it's so personal, so embedded, but it's also a lie. Do you ever feel like you remember something so fondly in the past, but if you talk to someone else about that time they'll remind you how you really felt? It probably wasn't all sunshine and roses like you remember. It might've been riddled with negativity that you simply don't see anymore because of the lens nostalgic puts on everything. As the Czech writer, Milan Kundera, once said, "In the sunset of dissolution, everything is illuminated by the aura of nostalgia, even the guillotine." That's true to this day, but it doesn't mean it's all bad. Maybe your childhood wasn't perfect, but in light of time away from it, you can remember the good things.

What were the good things in your childhood? Maybe it was your stuffed animal collection that your parents let you have even though they would barely fit in your room. Maybe it was staying up all night with your sister playing Barbies and making Dreamhouses out of VHS tapes and toilet paper rolls. Maybe it was spending hours upon hours playing video games with your friends, screaming at the top of your lungs every time you fell off the edge.

There's something about cats that inherently bring us back to our wholesome feelings of nostalgia, our naivety, our childhood goodness that we're all trying to touch at times. Cats have such adorable faces that it's impossible to resist their inherent charm. They're soft, cuddly, furry, and spark a certain joy in us that only they can. When we come home late from a long shift at work, there's nothing more comforting than a late night scroll through funny cat memes that make us feel like we're just a silly kid again.
